About Sri Venkateswara University
Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) is a public state university located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. Established on 2 September 1954 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the university is named after Lord Sri Venkateswara, the presiding deity of the Tirumala Tirupati temple. SVU is one of the oldest and most reputed state universities in southern India, accredited NAAC A+ and recognised under UGC Section 12(B).
SVU has 70+ departments organised into 7 faculties — Arts, Sciences, Commerce & Management, Engineering, Education, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Social Sciences — plus the SVU Oriental Research Institute. The university offers UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes across humanities, languages, sciences, commerce, education, engineering & technology (SVUCE), pharmacy, hotel management, and Sri Venkateswara studies. SVU also operates a strong distance-education programme.
Most SVU UG and PG admissions are conducted through the Andhra Pradesh state-level CET (AP EAPCET / AP ICET / AP LAWCET / AP PGCET) plus university counselling. Some PG and PhD programmes have their own SVU-conducted entrance examinations. Distance education programmes accept applications through the year via the SVU Distance Education portal.
