About Indian Law Institute
Indian Law Institute (ILI) is a deemed-to-be university and an autonomous research institute located at Bhagwan Das Road, New Delhi, originally established in 1956 as the apex national institute for legal research and was conferred deemed-to-be university status in 2004 by the University Grants Commission. ILI does not offer regular UG / PG law degrees — its focus is on legal research, doctoral studies and short professional / executive law programmes.
ILI offers LL.M. (one-year), Ph.D in Law, Post-Graduate Diploma programmes (Cyber Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Environmental Law, Criminal Justice, Securities & Investment Law and Human Rights), and short / executive certificate programmes for practising lawyers, judges and law-research scholars. Admission to LL.M. and Ph.D is through the ILI Entrance Examination plus interview; PG Diploma admission is largely on the merit of the qualifying examination.
The 2026-27 admission notification, programme list and entrance schedule are released on the official portal at ili.ac.in.
