About Himachal Pradesh National Law University

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) is a National Law University located at Ghandal, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, established by the HPNLU Act, 2016 of the HP Legislative Assembly. HPNLU is one of India's newer National Law Universities and is dedicated to legal education, research and policy with strong focus on environmental law and Himalayan-region legal issues.

HPNLU offers a 5-year integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), one-year LL.M. and Ph.D programmes in law. Admission to BA LLB and LLM is through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT UG / CLAT PG) conducted by the Consortium of NLUs.

CLAT 2026 was conducted on 7 December 2025. HPNLU portal is at hpnlu.ac.in.

Eligibility

BA LLB (Hons): 10+2 with 45% aggregate (40% SC/ST). LLM: LLB + 50% (45% SC/ST). Selection through CLAT score and counselling.

   NLU centralised counselling
   Fill HPNLU as a preference in centralised CLAT counselling.

   Final admission
   Allotted candidates pay the HPNLU admission fee at the Ghandal campus, Shimla.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for eligible candidates at this university.

HPNLU merit scholarships, HP State scholarships, NLU Aspirant scheme, SC/ST/OBC/EWS scholarships through NSP and need-based aid.

Reservations

HP state reservation: SC 25%, ST 5%, OBC 18%, EWS 10%; PwBD 4% horizontal. HP domicile reservation as per Consortium norms.
