About Karnataka Folklore University

Karnataka Folklore University (KFU) is a state university located at Gotagodi, Shiggaon, Haveri in Karnataka, established in 2011 by the KFU Act, 2011 of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. KFU is India's first university dedicated entirely to folklore studies — preserving, documenting and researching the folk literature, music, dance, performing arts, oral traditions and material culture of Karnataka and beyond.

KFU offers UG (BA Folklore), PG (MA Folklore), Diploma, PG Diploma and Ph.D programmes in folk literature, folk music, folk dance, folk theatre, folk religion, tribal studies, oral history and folk craft. Admission via KFU Aptitude Test + interview; demonstrated folk-arts proficiency is essential.
