About Kannada University
Kannada University (KU Bellary) is a state Kannada-language and cultural studies university located at Hampi, Vijayanagara district (formerly Bellary) in Karnataka, established in 1992 by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The university is dedicated to teaching, research and documentation of the Kannada language, literature, culture, history and heritage — set within the cultural landscape of the historic Vijayanagara empire.
Kannada U offers PG, M.Phil, Ph.D and Diploma programmes in Kannada language and literature, Kannada drama, Kannada folklore, Kannada history, Kannada visual arts, manuscript studies, dalit studies, women studies and tribal studies. Admission is via Kannada U PG Entrance plus interview, with weightage to Kannada-language proficiency.
