About Deccan College of Post-Graduate and Research Institute

Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute, established in 1821 as the Hindu College, Poona (one of the oldest modern educational institutions in India) — renamed Deccan College in 1864, and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1990 — is a premier research institute located at Yerwada, Pune. The college has historical importance as a precursor to several universities of India including the University of Mumbai. The current Deemed University is the postgraduate research wing.

Deccan College has six departments — Archaeology, Linguistics, Sanskrit & Lexicography (which produces the Sanskrit-English Encyclopedic Dictionary), Pali, Indology, and Computational Linguistics. Offers MPhil and PhD programmes in these disciplines. Known globally for the Maharashtra Lexicographic Project (Sanskrit-English Dictionary on Historical Principles) and Archaeology of the Indian subcontinent. NAAC accredited.

Admissions to MPhil and PhD programmes through Deccan College Entrance + interview. Open to students with bachelor (for MPhil) or master degree (for PhD) in relevant disciplines. NET/JRF holders preferred.
