About Central University of Odisha
Central University of Odisha (CUO), established in 2009 by the Central Universities Act 2009, is one of 15 new Central Universities created by the Government of India in that year. Located at Sunabeda in Koraput district, southern Odisha — a tribal-majority region of the state — the university serves Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Kalahandi districts, with a special focus on the academic and research needs of the tribal population of South Odisha.
CUO has 14 teaching departments organised into 5 schools — Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Sustainable Development. The Department of Sociology, Department of Anthropology and the Centre for Tribal Studies are research-focal units given the tribal demographic. NAAC accredited and recognised by UGC under Section 12(B).
UG admissions through CUET UG, PG through CUET PG, and PhD through CUET PhD or CUO PhD entrance. Central reservation policy applies (SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%, EWS 10%, PwBD 5% horizontal) with priority focus on tribal candidates.
