About Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), established in 1992 as a residential school for tribal children and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 2017 under the UGC Act, is a private deemed university located at Campus 8, Patia, Bhubaneswar. KISS is the world's largest free, fully residential institute for indigenous tribal children — and the only deemed university in India dedicated exclusively to tribal education. Founded by Dr. Achyuta Samanta (also founder of KIIT University), KISS provides free education, food, healthcare, accommodation and skill training to over 30,000 tribal students.
KISS has 12 schools — Education, Tribal Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Performing Arts, Vocational Training, Sports Sciences, Sciences, Computer Applications, Management, Law and Indigenous Knowledge Systems. The university serves K-12, UG, PG, MPhil and PhD levels — uniquely covering the entire academic pipeline. KISS has produced many Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes from tribal backgrounds.
Admissions are exclusively for tribal (ST) candidates with priority to economically disadvantaged students. Selection through KISS-conducted selection process. UG/PG admissions on merit + interview. PhD through KISS PhD entrance. Most students receive full free education + boarding.
