About UPES
University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun was established in 2003 through the Uttarakhand State Legislature Act and is sponsored by the Hydrocarbons Education and Research Society (HERS). UPES is recognised by the UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and is approved by AICTE, BCI and PCI for its respective professional programmes. It is one of India's first universities focused on the energy, infrastructure and transportation sectors, and operates from a 50-acre campus at Bidholi on the Kandoli-Premnagar road in Dehradun.
UPES is structured into seven schools — Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Law, Design, Health Sciences and Modern Media. Programmes include BTech (Computer Science, Petroleum, Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical), BBA, MBA (Energy/Oil & Gas/Logistics/Aviation specialisations), BA LLB / BBA LLB / LLM, B.Des, BSc (Health Sciences), BA(H) Journalism, MTech, MSc, PhD and integrated programmes. UPES accepts JEE Main and its own UPESEAT for engineering; CAT/XAT/GMAT/UPES-MET for MBA; CLAT/LSAT/ULSAT for law; and UPESDAT for design.
UPES is NAAC A grade accredited and ranked among India's top private universities in NIRF (Engineering, Management, Law and Pharmacy categories). It has signed academic partnerships with Cornell, MIT Sloan, Lancaster, NTU Singapore and the University of Houston. The university is widely recognised for high placement consistency, particularly in energy-sector recruitment with ONGC, Shell, Reliance Industries, Schlumberger, IOCL and Cairn India, alongside top consulting, IT and BFSI recruiters. The campus offers eight residential blocks, a 24×7 library, sports complex and a Centre for Continuing Education.
